I honestly don't know where the Slant Magazine is coming from. This isn't a parable of economic distress and it isn't trying to be one. It is a sweet story about finding love in hard times. Who in this distressed world can't identify with that. It is about perseverance in the pursuit of a dream. Ryan says in the movie that he doesn't think about where he has been. He gets up in the morning and asks where am I going next and how do I get there. Heigl is wonderful in this role. Ben Barnes is amazing. One of the best musical tracks I have seen in a long time. It has real soul. One of my favorite movies now. Do yourself a favor. Check it out.
The problem with Rotten Tomatoes reviewers is that many times they are jaded. They have no soul. This movie has plenty.
