Description

Maiden Woods is a remote and quiet town of decent hard-working people, but something stirs in the dark woods surrounding this isolated community. After a logging company decimates an area of the forest, a rash of increasingly violent and unexplainable events transpires. Sheriff Paul Shields (Kevin Durand) and his deputy (Lukas Haas), struggle to confront their own personal demons while facing down a new breed of raw terror that is possibly older than humanity itself… And much, much hungrier.

This has proven to be a fantastic creature feature, time and again! In fact, I keep checking back to see if it’s out on digital yet. Is this ever going to happen? Please, please, please!

This movie was a solid B+ into the horror/suspense genre. I read all the people that gave it 1–2 stars and almost all of them were born in the 1990s and have no clue on what a good movie is. That’s a fact. They are part of the “look at me” generation so don’t go by their bad opinions. This is a great movie and for $7 you can’t pass it up.

It’s a monster movie in the most traditional sense of the term: Family is dealing with a tragedy in a small town, mysterious things happen, monster time. Kevin Durand is on his way to being one of my favorite actors, he really anchors this movie in a way that many wouldn’t be able to pull off. It’s not a great ‘film’ but it’s one of the most enjoyable suspense/monster/horror movies I’ve seen in a long time.
  • Not the best, not the worst

I'm in the middle when it comes to this movie. Kevin Durand is always a treat to watch, and with him being the main character in this movie you get a good dose of the guy. The other actors were good, with the background actors being just okay or simply 'meh'. Beyond that, it's not a bad horror movie. Some parts fall a bit flat and are somewhat slow, while other scenes are well done. Don't go into this movie expecting too much, but if you got two hours and looking for something to past the time, this isn't a bad choice. Better than most Syfy tv movies, even with it having a weak buget.

Film brought back memories from my childhood when I used to be scared of monsters living in my woods. The suspense buildups are great and acting is spot on. Kudos to everyone who took part in making this film. I really enjoyed the couple hours my mind was away from the real world and its problems and put into this scary suspense environment. Thats what good movies do.
  • Sooooooooooo BORING!

I kept thinking that the slow burn, drawn out, boring plot of this film could've been a bit more palatable if the "cinematographer" had not decided to cast a dull, grayish blue tint on every scene. Seriously, we get it, you can manipulate the colors with your fancy editing program. Not to mention the big payoff reveal of the creature at the end is a bigger disappointment than the George W. Bush presidency. It looked like something you'd see on a cheesy Sci Fi Channel movie...from 2000. But hey, it's a great movie to rent if you have trouble sleeping at night.

Certainly a good looking film, the DP did an outstanding job as well as the Art Director of creating a deeply cold, blue palette and trapped in a small town feeling. The overall style and acting worked beautifully in this quiet “builder upper” of a film that does not disappoint in its ending. Similar to The Babadook, there is an underlying layer of psychologic drama that the lead is dealing with and hints of similar issues with his deputy (Lucas Haas). Worth your money to rent if you want a bit more thinking to your horror film.
