The Girl in the Photographs

Happily I watched this on Netflix instead of paying to watch it, the movie itself was just ok but the death scenes and effects were well done.

At the beginning of the movie it is suspenseful, however, by the end you're still pondering questions like: "why is he after this particular girl?", "why did he not kill her?" "Why did he kill her friends for?"... So many unanswered questions. I thought this would be a good horror but in my opinion no.

Great for the fan of gory horror-lots of blood and guts

I'm giving this movie three stars because of the cinematography along with the realistic gore effects. It's a straight up slasher movie, it's all been done before. As such, I spent most of the movie waiting for some kind of twist to set it apart. Especially since it's clearly a nod to Wes Craven and more specifically Scream. It has none of the charm that Scream had and there is no twist. What you see is what you get. No guessing who the killer(s) is or what the motivation is. The movie plays its cards too early and so has to rely on the brutality of its well shot gore (Rob Zombie would be proud). Gore aside, sorry Eli Roth fans, this movie is missing substance, plot, thrills. It passes the time perfectly fine but I would never watch it again. Not on principal or anything, I just think a sesond viewing would bore me to tears whereas I've seen Scream a bunch of times. You can see all the effort that was put into making this movie and yet you feel a certain laziness about it too. Everything is laid out before you so early on that you feel like you're watching something that's going through the motions. I suppose there is some suspense in who wil live who will die but that's every slasher movie ever made. This movie needed something different, something that popped and made me say, "Huh, didn't see that coming." Well I saw all of it coming and certainly not because I'm so smart I deduced it beforehand. The fact that Kal Penn is the actor who gets main billing is a testament to the fact that the movie can't rely on its own substance to pull you in. I would say the fact that Kal Penn's character is more of a parody than a real person doesn't help this movie at all. In the end you have a pure vanilla slasher movie with a very good depiction of death, some clever cinematography and not much else.

I dont understand the rotten tomato score. This movie is way better than what the score says.

...watch it. It's fun. Rad practical effects too.

I’ve been watching horror movies for a long time now and it take a lot for me to enjoy a horror movie simply because, good horror movies are rarely made anymore. But this one really good. I really enjoyed everything about it. Kill scenes are outstanding!!

The movie showed good potential at first but drove right off the cliff by unmasking the killers and including cheesy acting and the entire main cast. Ending was bad do not waste your time or money

Kal Penn did a phenomenal job making this film entertaining, interesting and on edge. Being a Wes Craven fan, Nick Simon has really carried the torch. I really hope they make a sequel to The Girl In The Photographs...

I appreciate the director paying homage to Wes Craven while at the same time I caution fututre directors not to make the same mistake. Craven is a one of a kind that cannot be reproduced. This is what makes him a legend. Trying to make a movie the way he would (this is only what I speculate happened in this case) will not turn out well for the viewer. Next time, just stick with "For Wes" and make a movie how you would make a movie. Cerrtainly not the worst movie I have ever seen, but I wouldnt dare call it good either. Very unstable and unsure of itself.
