Doris Day stars as a member of a small-time theatre company that finds itself stranded without bookings in Florida. But with a songwriter, an oil baron, his eligible daughter and a lot of luck, they will soon be headed for Broadway in the musical Lucky Me. Entertainers Candy (Day--Pillow Talk, Calamity Jane), Hap (Phil Silvers--Damn Yankees!), Duke (Eddie Foy, Jr.--The Pajama Game) and Flo (Nancy Walker) had expected a booking in a Florida hotel, instead they are working as domestics to pay their way--until handsome songwriter Dick Carson (Robert Cummings--Dial M For Murder) checks in. Now with the cast and the show, all they need is a backer to head to New York, which they find in the millionaire father (Bill Goodwin) of Lorraine Thayer (Martha Hyer), who has eyes for Dick... The only problem is that Candy is also starting to fall for the songwriter.
