Description

Harold Buttleman is a small town tuxedo salesman who thinks he's the next Evel Knievel. He is on the brink of TV stardom, a 3am spot on the late night cable access, but the life of a daredevil stuntman is harder than it looks. Harold's parents want him to move out of their basement and his girlfriend wants him to settle into a career selling bathtub parts. For Harold, it all depends on his big break. He gathers the entire town for his gala premiere celebration, but there's a surprise in store. An offbeat comedy about following your dreams, and the finer points of being shot out of a cannon.

You really identify with these characters, who dive into things with passion their talent may not support. Funny, earnest, heartfelt, with a great early Hawkes performance. Good stuff.

This is so much better than Hot Rod. And apparently it was first!

Great writing! The main character is a person who really is out of touch w his own abilities in a very hilarious kind of way. I saw this years ago and loved it then as well. Such a great film!
  • A good movie with a good soul.

A really fun, quirky indie. The always-great John Hawkes before he broke out, and co-starring Stephen Falk, who went on to create 'You're the Worst' on FX. Rusty Schwimmer did another movie recently with Francis Stokes called 'Wild Honey,' which got some nice notices at the festivals. Check this one out!

I can't believe I stumbled upon this movie. What a gem! Witty, funny, and smart all at the same time. Definitely worth watching if you like movies like "Sideways" and the like!
