Using compelling graphics and visuals, along with striking NASA and NOAA footage, the film artfully illustrates how, by drawing down atmospheric carbon, soil is the missing piece of the climate puzzle. Joshua and Rebecca Tickell once again demonstrate their passion for environmental advocacy in their 2020 documentary titled Kiss the Ground. Amidst a year full of chaos, the director duo presented audiences with a slice of hope by offering a possible solution to our current climate change crisis. Surprisingly enough, the answer has been right in front of us this whole time, or rather below us. According to a variety of scientists, our soil could very well be the thing that saves our planet through a process called agricultural regeneration. There are five distinct principles to regenerative agriculture: Growing more diverse crops, introducing grazing animals, maintaining living roots in the soil, eliminating soil disturbance, and keeping the soil surface covered. It all seems rather simple, but in order to implement these practices the public must be properly educated. The film aims to redefine everything we know about modern agriculture and tramples any stigmas surrounding carbon's role in the environment. I recommend this as an educational tool, as well as just an overall great viewing for your next movie night!
  • Optimistic and Compelling!

As a film that is tackling such a heavy topic, Kiss the Ground manages to keep a lightness about it that is a breath of fresh air for the audience. Directors Rebecca and Josh Tickell manage to do this by reinforcing more positive messages than negative ones, as well as focusing on holistic lifestyles. These are very successful moves that they make, as these themes create a peaceful tone in the film, preventing the audience from feeling helpless or overwhelmed. One of the main stars featured who promoted this idea of whole body health was Gisele Bündchen. Her stance that a healthy planet leads to a healthy person is extremely compelling and persuasive. The fact that she is a model and shows her lifestyle as an example further solidifies her point, making her presence in the film that much stronger. Overall, this is a powerfully moving and motivating film that I would recommend to anyone!

Growing up I watched Ian Somerhaulder, and seeing one of my favorite actors in the documentary called Kiss the Ground made me feel as though anyone could be an environmentalist. Seeing the familiar face and hearing the familiar voice of Woody Harrelson narrating the history and the facts regarding climate change encouraged the effects of the facts they presented. Ian Somerhaulder himself went to Zimbabwe to view the positive results of regeneration in real time. In his words, the world has the ability to “return to the garden of Eden.” Directors Josh and Rebecca Tickell chose the best cast to inspire the new generation. After years of feeling like our climate was permanently doomed, Kiss the Ground allowed me to feel a glimmer of hope.

Kiss the Ground combines information with a high-quality cinematic experience through its compelling visuals and moving narratives. The film features a star-studded cast with commentary from Ian Somerhalder, Tom Brady, Jason Mraz, and Woody Harrelson. It isn’t the star power that makes the movie, but the real voices of real small-town farmers that are making the difference that needs to be made. These farmers, alongside the directors of the film Joshua and Rebecca Tickell, preach regenerative agriculture as the savior to not only our soil but our atmosphere. Each story shared comes from a hope that their kids and their kids after them will be able to enjoy the earth that we have had to ability to enjoy for so many years or an even better one. Kiss the Ground is truly a passion product that aims to educate the masses in a way that will keep the audience captivated.

Under the astute direction of Josh and Rebecca Tickell, there comes an accessible solution to climate change through the allure of Hollywood. While the likes of Tom Brady, Woody Harrelson, and Jason Mraz may draw an audience into the film, the content and message of the film is what lasts long after the screening is finished. Kiss the Ground was such a good documentary. It was actually so positive and empowering to watch which I wouldn't expect from something about the climate crisis. It was about how there is actually something to do about this crisis that will create a fast and noticeable change and that's regenerative agriculture. We already have all the means to do this and it would be effective within our lifetime. It's so educational and informative without being hard to understand. The film is very watchable for children and adults, with visual aids and infographics. It's also so beautiful and full of nature videos. It's a very important watch and expertly done.

After watching Kiss the Ground and truly understanding a legitimate way that our planet could heal from climate change, I find myself feeling exceedingly hopeful. Filled to the brim with experts, scientists, activists, and personal stories of farmers and ranchers, the film is easy to follow and engaging through the very end. I cannot urge you all enough to watch it and see for yourself how healthy soil could be the solution we’ve all been looking for.
