  • Poor narration, too much focus on victims

This is one of the first times ever I actually stopped watching the movie before it was done. As others have commented, the narration is more mythical than factual. But what disappointed, and frustrated me, more than anything, was the focus they put on a few of the birds that got caught by predators. My young children are accustomed to Planet Earth, and Life, but this had such a large proportion dedicated to the birds who didn’t make it, that it really soured it for the children.

The cinematography is outstanding, nice long shots that allow the action to unfold without constant cuts. The narration is a bit over the top at times but it’s a welcome break from the usual science class. The music is beautiful.

This film has really stuck with me. At first I was obsessed with the song ARRIVAL OF THE BIRDS which I found on Youtube, which lead me to the soundtrack. (I found it at another store.) Next, I found the film! I still get teary eyed thinking of the film and/or soundtrack. Just breath-taking. The film is the TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD of documentaries IMO. Love it!

I actually have not seen this movie, yet I've heard the piece, "Arrival of the Birds." Isn't the Cinematic Orchestra just...divine? I found "Arrival of the Birds" absolutely beautiful.

The music in this film is really remarkable. It's by CInematic Orchestra. It's also impossible to find. I wish iTunes made it available, the UK store has!

This is one of the finest natural history documentaries ever made with outstanding cinematography. The scenes of the flamingo chicks leaving en mass from their island birth place are unforgettable. Don't understand why this did not win bucket loads of awards.
