I'm not sure that it's important that this movie is true or untrue to Shakespeare. The acting is great, especially Cassavetes. It also makes me miss Raul Julia. He was an amazing actor. I really enjoyed it. It's one of those movies I like to watch again every year or so.

This is a modern-day version of Shakespeare's "The Tempest," with Cassavetes in the Prospero role. Contrary to the reviewer, he doesn't take his wife to the island: they are separated, and he takes his girlfriend, Susan Sarandon, to the island along with their daughter (Ringwald). Interesting, but ultimately it fails either as a modern fable or as an interesting take on The Bard.
