Description

Seven college friends reunite over a three-day weekend after one of them attempts suicide. When the friends get together to keep an eye on Alex, the weekend that ensues will renew old crushes and resentments, shine light on bad decisions, and ultimately push friendships and relationships to the brink as the group tries to speculate when the simple life of their college years turned so muddy and complex. Sometimes irreverent, sometimes poetic, and always moving, About Alex is a searingly honest look at the changing nature of adult friendship in the social media generation.

This was a good idea gone wrong. My college friends and I were haunted by Alex’s loss of hope in the Big Chill. We worried that we might face the same crisis where life after college erodes our idealism and dreams. This new version version’s good idea was keeping Alex in the story. It went over the cliff when his loss of hope comes from not getting a reply to social media messages.

Bad acting, where each actor takes turns freaking out and overacting. None of it connects and is just a rip off of about ten way better movie.

Every generation needs this movie. It's not my generation, but I was touched by it. Charming characters and authentic performances. It doesn't tread any new ground on human nature, but I didn't expect or need it. It delivers. Recommended!

Although I agree with other reviews in that this is "falsely advertised as a comedy"; that theme has been a trend since 2008 in the indie comedy and drama genre. This movie is full of fantastic performances from every single cast member, and remains one of my favorites in recent years. Jason Ritter's performance is incredible, as well as all of his cast mates (Max Greenfield is as entertaining as he has proven to always be) and while the story has several depressing scenes and storylines, it wraps together to deliver a truly reflective film that represents what I believe to be an accurate look at the relationship of college friends years after graduating. A must see in my opinion... plus the expected flawless execution from Aubrey Plaza, so you know.... Definitely watch it.

Just a slow boring boring movie. Don't rent or especially buy this one.
  • Compared to Big Chill, are you kidding me?

Well, I fell asleep nearly half way through the movie. There is no comedy in this at all. The cast was quite confusing—they barely had their characters defined. Blame it on the script for that! I didn’t know who was who half the time—they just blended in together—except Maggie Grace got it. It looked like this one did this over there and the other had a conversation on the porch and the other went out for a walk—and later they had coffee—but the entire script between each character was so BLAND! The Big Chill was way way way better! It would have been cool if they actually did it better but the blew it!
