Slow rhythm, beautiful narrative, excellent performances. I have nothing bad to say about this movie. Interesting approach to love from different cultural points of view. I expected the traditional happy ending, but it had a better way. By the way, Bérénice Marlohe is a human angel, a beauty out of this world.

...It's the Frenchness. I actually watched this movie years ago & then watched again not realizing it was the same movie. It's a good movie, but there is something off that makes it less memorable and thus less believable. I have to agree with other reviewers in that the male lead, Anton Yelchin, did not resonate as the All American Boy required for this role. While he grew up in US, he very much looks/acts Russian. So his shock and awe falls flat to the concept: "There are some people you marry and some people you love." I really enjoyed the positivity of the French family. Their views of family embraced love and welcomed others...like something you would order straight "out of a catalog." I recommend this movie.

I hate romance it just reminds me of how my own heart was broken my dreams shattered and loss of hope. And there's this movie. I hate that it made me cherish it in a weird way that I can't explain but to tell you watch it. You may cry or you may hate it but if you open up to it you might just love it.

Acting, dialogue and the delightful French twist to it got to me. It's superb! Definitely would be a classic. Raises questions of infidelity in today's world and yet portrays love in its most authentic and candid form.
  • No thank you

Who was responsible for casting the male lead? This was not sufficiently bad that I was able to distance myself, but it was not good enough to enjoy, either. I am sorry that I rented it.
  • Sure to be a classic

Anyone who is searching for love or who has ever questioned a relationship in any of its forms should watch 5 to 7. If you have grappled with divorce and its prospective consequences, it will speak to you loudly. The play on culture, from hers to his to his parents, and the added characters surrounding the aspiring writer are all enjoyable. The ending builds and twists and likely will have tears of joy and reflection streaming down your cheeks.
