Hi, great insight into arranging the talent for a play. During this movie we got to experience the play. It gave me warm fuzzies about Switzerland . I could not wait for the snake to appear or Binoche's nude scene.

What saves this film from being totally boring are the performances of Juliette Binoche and Kristen Stewart. Not having watched any of the Twilight series or any other of Ms. Stewart's films I was unfamiliar with her work. I was impressed with her performance in this film finding it believable, genuine,and unassuming. Juliette Binoche is exceptional as the insecure, unsure of her decisions and emotions Maria. The cinematography and soundtrack are exquisite adding a star to the rating.

It's rare to find a film in which all the performances are superb. Althought Kristin Stewart got the award, this is Juliette Binoche's film. The chemistry between the two women is nothing short of amazing and dynamic and the direction, photography and editing are wonderful.

The actors are good and the setting is beautiful, but the story is not interesting. The relationship between Maria and Val is left behind by the film without closure.

The intricacies of this movie wound around me like the “snake” in the movie. I’m still uncovering insights in the layers. Top that with the award deserving performances of Binoche and Stewart, and showcase them in the majestic scenery of the Swiss Alps … Mesmerizing. Binoche’s depth and ability as an actor helps us to understand that she is wonderful and ageless, as she attempts to learn this herself. In the end we feel for the other characters as they weave their way into her life. I’ll be watching this again and thinking about if for a long time.

The ending is the sort where you stare at the screen in disbelief by how unresolved it was, the entire movie actually felt that way though. Boring and dull, except for the acting, there's not much of an actual story.

I cannot fathom why this is considered a great film or why Kristen Stewart's performance is being called remarkable. The only remarkable thing about it is that she manages to deliver every line with vocal fry! She is apparently incapable of expressing any emotion except pique. Juliette Binoche does the best she can with a flat script. And the ingenue character is just a nightmare. I thought the young men—who appear only briefly—were more entertaining and believable. I hated it. It's not that the film is abstract, as I've loved some very abstract films in the past, like Blue, White, and Red. It's just that the writing isn't good enough to advance the ideas it purports to discuss.
