I didn't think Sara Groves could possibly top Invisible Empires, but she has. Floodplain is a gorgeous album. It's sonically and thematically cohesive, and lyrically superb. There's not a single track on this record that I don't care for - they're all exceptional; well-written and beautifully produced. Floodplain is a contemplative record for Groves. She's always contemplative, but this album, in particular, is highly thoughtful with a beautiful emotional character. Always honest, the lyrics open portals to our own lives and the music carries us along with the stream. Expedition and I've Been Here Before are my tied-for-favorite songs on the album, followed closely by the titular track. None of the tracks are lighthearted like Setting Up the Pins or musically outgoing on the level of In the Girl There's a Room - this is an album to sit back and really listen to. It's an album to feel, and the gently engaging music supports that. The record is also lyrically tight across the board on a whole new level for Groves, who always wrote good lyrics anyway. I'm a poet, so I notice when a lyric doesn't quite stand up, and I have no complaints about Floodplain. There's not a weak one in the bunch, which is pretty impressive for 12 unique tracks. I must therefore conclude that Sara Groves has unequivocally 'added to the beauty' with this extraordinary new album. Well done.

With every album, I think, "Man, this is so good--Sara can't possibly top this one." And with every new release, Sara finds a way to do just that. Floodplain certainly isn't any exception. Once again, Sara delivers a project full of compelling and thought-provoking lyrics, captivating melodies, and ingenious musicality. In addition, she demonstrates her ability not only as an accomplished artist and songwriter, but this time, also as a producer for the album, proving her investment and care into her music. The end result is nothing short of brilliant. Floodplain has remained on repeat for me, and I can't help but say: Well done once again, Sara! Well done.
  • All that and more.

I love a catchy tune, delight in the clever turn of a phrase, and take real pleasure in the art and craft of music making. Sara Groves has delivered on these things time and again. At this point, I will likely purchase ever album she records until, well, this life is over. There is something more in Floodplain. There is a richness in the melody, a depth in the lyric, a sweet and savory goodness in the whole that reminds me of Conversations. I am grateful, once again, that Sara Groves steps beyond the role of musician into the role of worship leader, of prophet, of pastor even.

Every now and then there is a voice that cuts through the noise around us with a compelling perspective and an unquestionable sincerity that reaches deep into the innermost chambers of the human heart. I've been listening to Sara Groves for years but this has to be one of the most Pastoral and beautiful albums I've ever heard. I'm so thankful she's still adding to the beauty this homesick world so desperately needs...even after all these years...her vulnerability and voice is unparalleled.

Sara’s music is some of the best. She is so introspective and relatable with honesty and truth. She expresses what many of us feel, while bringing us back to God’s truth. This album is incredible! Second guess girl, enough, this cup, and I’ve been here before, some of my favorites from the album.

Excellent as always. If you have been a fan of Sara's past work, this will not disappoint. If you have never listened before, the music is approachable and the lyrics are just like you were sitting on the front porch talking about what really matters. Good stuff.

Sara has always had a knack for hitting me where I am spiritually and expressing the prayerful yearnings of my heart. This album is no exception as I get welled up praying along with several of the songs, especially "This Cup," "Expedition," "Floodplain," "Enough," "I've Been Here Before," "I Feel the Love Between" and "Signal." They are all stand-out tracks filled with overwhelming biblical truth and are companions in my personal prayer and worship time. Sara has captivating and catchy songs filled with inspirational lyrics. Sara brings sincerity and relatable themes that get deeper with each listen. Floodplain is one of the top albums of the year. This is truly a great album and a moving and prayerful listening experience which reflects how we are bound together as believers in faith, love and vulnerability.

I've loved Sara's music for years, and her lyrics have always struck me as being honest, poetic and intriguing. This album is no different, and I would say, her best, most lyrically rich work yet, mixed with inventive, adventurous arrangements and exciting musicality, while staying true to her authentic and humble voice. It's a triumph for sure.
