It's like taking a Surfing Trip to West Texas, then a long road trip for dinner and a bender in Balersfield, before heading for the hideout in Sonora Mexico. In a couple of words after the hangovers' gone - Fabulous and Superlative !!

I saw the band last evening. While the concernt was going on, I actually did not know that many of the songs played were from this album. I purchased the LP/CD combination directly from the show vendor afterward. The show was thrilling and fun, but normally I prefer hearing the artistic output from the studio effort as opposed to attending live -- I listened to the recording this morning and for me, it invoked the kind of emotion I am seeking when I listen to recorded music. I know it may be different that most of the music Marty Stuart is know for, and I do not think there is a mandolin anywhere on the tracks. The 12 string electric guitar, for me, evokes a sensation from the Byrds, while several of the tracks seem California surf music influenced -- it would appear Kenny Vaughan must have been the driving force behind those compositions, but the whole band seems completely in sync on the more "psychedelic" flavors in some of the melodies. Three of the four band members contributed song compositions (I think Chris Scruggs did not, but I may be wrong), and I would judge all the material to be class-A stuff. May not be for everyone, but I immediately ripped the CD using Apple Lossless codec so I can play it everywhere in full fidelity. I do not think I will get tired of this one.

By far the best album ive heard in the last 20 years. Even so called country fans may not be used to it as this is the real stuff, not the garbage that you hear on the radio that is called country music. Keep up the good work Marty, real country fans appreciate it!

Not many bands playing this kind of music anymore. Superb musicianship - better than most any other new "pop" country out now. Can't wait to see them live!
  • Guitar-driven old western

The aural textures on Way Out West make it feel like I'm watching an old western movie. There are hints of 60's era rock in here, too – Roger McGuinn comes to mind. Truth be told, one of my least favorite tracks is the title cut, which is a bit too trippy for me. Love the rest of it, tho. ... There's not much pedal steel in this record – it's more guitar driven. Seems like it's going for more of a "60s Hollywood" country music, rather than a Nashville country music. Creative, nostalgic, and wonderfully executed. Thanks, Marty!
  • How refreshing is this?!

Nuff said. I can always count on Marty and the boys to keep me from losing my mind with all the "bro" country coming out of Nashville.
