I am a member of a school band in some one-horse in Texas. Our band played a different version of Shenandoah that was arranged by M. Story. This preformance of Shenandoah brings the song justice. The beautiful melody caried by the flutes and the low brass sound fading in and out adds to the affect of greatness. Whenever I hear Shenandoah played by a lousy school band at a band contest it makes me sad to hear this delicate song played with poor intuition and skill. In case you were wondering, my band got a big, shinny trohpy at contest for our achievements, but I am still awestruck by The United States Air Force Band when they produce the meloncholy tune that can give chills to the least musically minded. Absolutely worth 99 cents, and I recomend the entire album if you like classic patriotic music.

Tichelli wrote that arrangement of Shenandoah for a horn player in a youth band that tragically lost his life. It is one thing to hear this recording, but it another to hear it performed live...like I did. It is a beautiful and haunting piece that makes you cry. I strongly recommend Shenandoah, and probably the rest of this album as well.

This is a fine collection of old patriotic music for the United States. I especially like the Suite of Old American Dances, and Giannini's third symphony (excellent symphony), of which I highly reccomend. Favorites from the Suite of Old American Dances include (Western one step, and Rag). As for the third symphony, I love all four movement. If you like music and are feeling a great appreciation for your country, by all means I reccomend this album!
