Can't speak for the whole album and not coming from the trip-hop/turntablistic side of things I heard "Spoon" first on XM Chill (electronica). Damn sweet base line. This cut spans all kinds of genres. Must have...

The AMG review of this album says something about "hip-hop nuts believe he's the heir apparent to DJ Shadow" and while I see the logic in that statement, it's not completely true. Cut Chemist embodies his own style of hip-hop that's similar to DJ Shadow's turntablist bit, but it's unique in its own right too and I don't see Cut Chemist as being one to follow in anyone's footsteps or inherit any title from anyone, least of all DJ Shadow. The Chemist has put together a really strong collection of tracks from back to front, but, while there are some brilliant individual tracks and other very high quality ones as well, the album doesn't flow too well as a whole (which is surprising, considering how well his DJ sets hold together). That's really the only gripe I have that keeps this album from being 5 stars, but beyond that, there are some truly amazing cuts on here, especially "The Garden," "What's the Altitude," "Metrorail thru Space," "Storm," and the theme song. Other songs are great; there's only one or two that don't quite work. Great job Cut Chemist!

I saw lucas when he performed with jurassic 5 many years ago and he did a 10 minute solo that blew me away... i believe it involved a fisher price toy. I have seen a lot of dj performances in my life, and he definitely was the best, hands down. I am so excited that he put this album out and is continuing to entertain and amaze me! This album is amazingly full of slow beats, quick cuts and can be heard at any time of day or night.
  • Good but could have been much better.

Chemist does a great job laying his style down over some fresh samples but I wish he went a little bit further with each track but thats just me.
