    What marvw probably doesn't realize is that you can't play this well if you're an amateur, especially not this well. Buy the second movement; then try playing it at his speed. I have three or four different recording of this piece, and this one is my favorite by far.

    Either this was an amature recording with the mike on Rostopovich's cello or the Moscow Symphony was so in awe of Rostopovich they were afraid to intrude. All the beauty of this concerto was gone and only a cello exercise was left. Compared to a CBS recording of YoYo Ma with the London Philharmonic MK 39541 it is a waste of a disc. It is not worth 4 cents much less $4 This was my first purchace of a classical work on iTunes and if the next is the same quality it will be my last. Marv
