I’ve listened to it twice. Once with speakers. Once with headphones. The music in several songs overshadow the lyrics. And, many of those lyrics need, for me, some clarity. Far from the love I have for these guys.

Not sure if I will listen to this much. It’s definitely not like an Avett Brothers album. But I understand their creative impulse to move ahead.They are almost fifty, married, with kids, and can’t sing about the same things anymore. We’ll see if it grows on me.

Just wow! At first combining the Avett Brothers and Mike Patton sounds like total opposites attracting, it somehow works. Sure the track Heaven’s Breat doesn’t sound like it belongs, but it does fit in the overall scheme of the album. Most to the album is good old Avett Bros with a little electric boost behind them while Mike Patton’s vocals complement the songs. While I wouldn’t want the Avett Brothers to produce this sort of album each and every time out, there are aspects of it I wish they would keep because it certainly adds depth to their music. as a one off, this is definitely 5 stars!
