Yay Teena!

Odd to be the first to write a review of such a great artist, but here goes. . . . Great effort on Teena Marie's part and pretty much the end of her long run of successive albums in the 1980s and she still definitely kicks it out here. Her post-Motown style is distinctive in my opinion, but no less powerful, a much richer sound in some respects and generally more sensual. She has lost a bit of her theological and even political edge in this later work, which I thought served up a real interesting and sexy tension in her earlier Motown work. But its still great music, a good follow up to the Emerald City album. "Crocodile Tears," "Surrealistic Pillow" and "Work it" are my favorites. "Ooo La La La" is fantastic, but has been a bit over played.
It is really too bad that the music industry chose not to support her in this later period as much as it should have. The 1990's lost out on this innate talent. . . . glad she is back though; belatedly all the same: Yay, Teena!
