This is a beautifully recorded instrumental album with typical sounds of Northern India. Can very well serve as a good starting point for music lovers who want to explore Indian music. Each track is unique and associated with some aspect of life in Kashmir. Great composing act by Rahul Sharma. Shimmering sounds of santoor are so relaxing and energizing.

“India is not just Geography or History. It is not only a nation, a country, a mere piece of land. It is something more. It is a metaphor, poetry, something invisible but very tangible. It is vibrating with certain energy fields, which no other country can claim. It is strange because it has renounced everything for a single search. The search for truth. India is the only land in the whole world, which has devoted all of its talents in a concentrated effort to see the truth and to be the truth.” -Osho Back Cover Notes: Kashmir - Sounds of the Valley (Released earlier as Jannat in India) Composer: RAHUL SHARMA The famous mughal emperor King Jehangir mesmerized by the beauty and grandeur of Kashmir said, ‘If there is paradise on earth, it is here, it is here, and it is here.’ The Kashmir valley, nestling in the lap of dazzling, snow-capped Himalayas is a jewel in India’s crown. “Kashmir” is aptly called “Jannat” for its beautiful blue valleys, alpine passes, Dal Lake, Char Chinar, Mughal Gardens, house boats, fountains, streams etc. No state in India is more captivating than Kashmir. To the admirer of nature, it offers scenes of grandeur almost unrivaled. It is a place where people of great simplicity and firmness of character reside and where a poet or a painter can find scenes more reflective, to intensify their imagination. Possessing great beauty, history and charm, it treasures something for everyone.

I absolutely love this album. I've never been into instrumental music but this album is so soothing and if you're an upbeat person like me, you'll still love it. My Fav is Track 2: Char Chunari Bazaar!
  • Amazing fusion of santoor

This is an amazing "fusion" album. Santoor sounds so refreshing when combined with other melodic instruments and drums. The best tracks are: "Pari Mahal", "Gulmarg", "Kehwa", and "Shankaracharya". OK, the whole album is good [which is hard to find these days].

These instrumental tunes are very well done - the combination of santoor, bass guitar, and multitude of drums and string insturments is well co-ordinated. Does justice to the theme of Kashmir.

Melodious, energetic, sophisticated, engaging... The beats in tracks 2, 4, and 5 are great and danceable. Goes well as dinner jazz.
  • Gorgeous Sounds!

I love the sounds on this album: rich, exotic, dreamy, relaxing, romantic...it's all there! I give it 4 stars only because the album is too short, and a few songs are not as top notch as the rest. The top 3 (Sunrise on Dal Lake, Char Chinari Bazaar, & Pari Mahal), however, are fantastic. Rahul Sharma is obviously very gifted!
