Jan Peerce is one of the greatest operatic tenors of the 20th century. Arturo Toscanini selected him for every major opera that he conducted, including Pucinni's La Boheme and Verdi's La Traviata. Were today's recording techhniques available sixty years ago, one would speak of Peerce with the same awesome respect that we speak of the great Pavoroti. Peerce started singing as a young boy in the synagogue and, before his operatic career, was a remarkable cantor. This recording, as old as it is, is a must for those who today still remember the incomparable Jan Peerce. To me it's amazing that I seem to be the first to write a review of this recording.
