Reviews

  • A so-so Album

I would have to say, seeing as E.S. Posthumus became popular with their breath taking instrumental songs this cd failed to impress me. Although Luna Sans has a beautiful and enchanting voice, she is not the reason one listens to music from this talented duo. I much prefer the Piri remixes, without the overshadowing vocals, the songs are just as thrilling and lovely as those found on Unearthed. I am not saying this version of Cartographer is bad, I just feel E.S. Posthumus fans are in it for the unique sound that the Vonlichten brothers have created. If you are looking for a similar sound, their newest cd Makara is just like Unearthed (in terms of not having a vocalist) only much harder and simply phenomenal!

i really like this album except for Luna Sans. Her voice is beautiful but it's kinda annoying to hear when you know the orchestra can do good on it's own.(no offense to Luna, of course) The remix is better.

This is the only E.S.Posthumus album i don't realy care for. Luna Sans has a nice voice, but it just doesn't work alongside E.S.Posthumus. It's a so-so album. If you want better versions of these songs, check out Cartographer {Piri Reis Remixes}. Now that album is fantastic!

I also concur that this album was a scratch when contrasted with the late E.S. Posthumus we all once knew. The overall piece aside, the author should know at this point that his/her listeners are accustomed to instrumental tracks; this album is a disappointing departure from that avenue, particularly because the woman's voice (while beautiful by itself) is not meant for Posthumus' music. I don't know if the author made a horrible album after listening to the woman's voice, or if the woman's voice became terrible while attempting to synchronize with this music. The one track, "Marunae", that started to get my hopes up (it possibly being a good instrumental), slapped me in the face with rose-scented baby-powder as soon as the vocals began. Nice voice lady, nice album Posthumus (for other venues), but I disagree with the music and vocals on this album for your particular fan-base. Vote: Make "Marunae" instrumental. Question: Who, until now, looked to E.S. Posthumus for love music?
  • Very different

This album proves to be such a different ES Posthumus than the one we saw in "Unearthed." Needless to say, I was slightly dissappointed at this album, especially after listening to Pompeii and being hooked. It still is very soothing, beautiful music, but I can't rate it higher than a 4 because of what I expected from them. Buy it if you're looking for something to drive along to in the car, or to fall asleep to, or to do homework to. But other than that, you won't find the epic soundtrack feeling like in Unearthed. If you were between buying Unearthed and this album, buy the former.

This album is one that is necessary to purchase after becoming familiar with the Piri Reis version of Cartographer. Lunas Sans was created to be similar to the Piri Reis version, however does not carry as much of the spiritual or epic spirit. This album is simply one which will draw you in if you appreciate any form of music. The only negative feature of this other than the other Cartographer album is that this version carries computer-modified voice lyrics. I personally prefer the "real style" of the Piri Reis, however I guarantee you will love this if you are a fan of E.S. Posthumus. Cartographer is an absolute must have!

E.S. Posthumus is amazing. Every song crackles with energy, every slow-jam harmonizes the heart. My favorites are Mosane, Marunae, and Sollente, but there is something great in every song. A must buy!

the vonlichten bros. are amazing! their music is truly inspirational in every sense of the word! to say that i prefer the luna sans versions more or the piri reis remixes more would be a lie, because i have to be honest, they're both equally great. for the die-hard posthumus fans, the remixes will probably take center stage as the more faithful style and sound that the bros. produced in 'unearthed', but i personally think luna sans' vocals convey just as much as, if not more, emotion than the remixes. anyway, if you're wondering whether or not you should buy this, you definately won't regret it if you do :] I hope that helps in your decision!
