  • Ugh...STOP!

Just because he's Paul Weller doesn't mean everything he does is brilliant. I've followed his stuff since the 70's and have loved it. A Mod follower. BUT... I agree with the guy who said 2 good tracks and 16 nightmares. Please, Paul- stop. Spend your money and relax. Ride your scooter around. Go to an all nighter. But stop. Please.

A wide spectrum of styles through out the entire album. A few tunes have a very 60s feel, they seem almost nostalgic and familiar at the same time. But, at the same time, different. Mr. Weller will never be a "radio top 40" artist here in the States, and I really don't think he cares to be. Having downloaded and listened to 22 Dreams many times already, I think this will easily become one of my favorite albums he's released. There is one thing about Paul Weller that cannot be said of many other artists today... He doesn't churn out cookie-cutter songs or anything similar to any of his earlier solo work, songs from The Jam or The Style Council. Each new album he releases has it's own feel and style. For those who get bored listening to "same sounding songs" from other artists, 22 Dreams will be a pleasant surprise. Highly recommended.

Interesting that at 50 Paul comes up with what I consider his best album. Never afraid of a new challenge he takes on the world of folk in "Light nights" with wonderful accoustic frenzy. Northern soul is alive and kicking in a couple of foot tappers, "Have you made up your mind" for instance, and even explores electronic dance brilliantly with "Rip up the pages". There's not a clunker to be heard throughout and I look forward to his up coming concerts, always a treat. Thanks Paul for keeping popular musical integrity alive, fun, thoughtful and leaving your weaker contempories in the dust.

'Black River' is an instant PW Classic. What a talent, this guy blends so many different influences but sounds so comfortable. Love it.
  • Sounds like Paul Weller AKA The Dust Collector

Like every other solo album he's done...But with more strings and "flourishes" to make it sound like Burt Bacharach. His voice sounds the same, the guitars sound the same, some of the melodies are the same. Empty Ring is basically Above The Clouds off his first album. All I Wanna Do is Out Of The Sinking. The way he enunciates makes every song sound the same unless he goes for some odd falsetto kind of thing but then that sounds like the other albums where he has done that before. There are some nice songs, as with every solo disc, and he has some vitality that most artists his age don't but every release I hope for something that sounds like Man In The Cornershop or That's Entertainment...Or In The City. Ha ha. Never get it. And never listen to his solo stuff repeatedly after the initial week or so of purchase.
  • This album is ace!

The Modfather's best since Heliocentric and further proof that he remains a vital, relevant piece of the music scene.

I grew up in Detroit in the late 70's, early 80's obssesed with the Jam. I'd go see 'em play every chance I got. Allways thrilling shows. They felt like family to me and still do - kindred spirits of my home town heroes -- Iggy and his Stooges. And I kept going to the shows, Style Council thru to Mr. Weller out touring by himself. This new stuff is equally powerful as all the a great stuff that preceeded it. Thanks again, Paul, for your incredible contribution to music and for a great new album. Cheers!

Paul Weller personifies the very definition of a true artist that courageously continues to explore and expand his soulful universe. Beautiful work....
