Someone stole my CD of Houdini but, this is easily 1,000 times better. Not a bad song in the lot.

This is a wonderful album and showcases the flexibility and differing genres of Melvins' sound during their Atlantic era. The first four tracks are solid Stoner Rock riff-based pieces. At first, Goose Freight Train and Roadbull seem out of place on a Melvins album but are the quintessential songs on ST. At the Stake is very catchy and has multiple-layers of syncopated riffs. June Bug ends off the album with a classic Melvins cut, short enough to be a nod to their first 2 LPs but heavy enough to leave any fan of good music satisfied. The ambient Shevil, Magic Pig Detective and Lividity are difficult to learn to enjoy, but a few dedicated listens will reveal this record as their most experimental. I love Houdini, but don't understand why it is considered their best. Stoner Witch is the superior album in my opinion, and the last truly great album in their catalog IMO. You don't have to be stoned to enjoy this album but it certainly wouldn't hurt!

The melvins are one of my favorite bands and they will blow you away live. Every time I hear them I am humbled yet inspired at the same time there is no other band like the melvins mainly because a lot of heavy bands songs all start to sound the same and get monotonous but not these guys, just when you think that point has been reached , they reach even farther and kick you in the pants even harder. If you have never listened to the melvins stoner witch is a good place to start or go see them live and you will be hooked.

I'm sure Melvins fans will hate me but this is a disappointment. When they actually play music it's good. But I can only handle so many songs that are just ambient noise. Waste of money this one was.

That Mike Patton and Tool cherish Buzz and this band. Greatness. The Bit and Revolve are two of the greatest jams ever.

The album that proves fast does not equal heavy. Like listening to Black Sabbath on vinyl...with a broken record player and a head full of whiskey. Amazing band.
