Sylvester's Finale

By Dr. Jingles
Not necessarily his best work by any means, but this album was on a major label, a coup in itself. "Someone Like You" was the heavily promoted single and wasn't bad. "Living for the City" was a Megatone single and one of the songs, like "Band of Gold" from his youth that he made his own. "Talk to Me" got some play at the Parade Disco in New Orleans and was a personal favorite for me. I remember him performing it live when I was doing the lighting. Meeting Sylvester was a dream come true for me!
"The Fabulous Sylvester" is a great biography of Sylvester, and a good primer on the San Francisco gay music scene pre-AIDS. In this book it's discussed that Sylvester at the time needed money, at the same time his health was failing. The Album Review listed above is a bit harsh when you take this all into account, I think.
If you're a Sylvester fan, this is in fact a much have, if for no other reason than the sad fact that this was the last work of such a talented performer.
