  • A noble and dignified document.

The American pianist Goode gives a compelling account of the Beethoven concertos. He does not take immediate risks in interpretation but it is by no means boring such as theKissin recording of a few months ago. It's a thankfully mature and assured recording much in line with his survey of the sonatas some years back. All of the concertos are well thought out from wit of the early first and second to the grandur of the fifth. Fischer and the Butapest are superb in their support entering into conversation when needed but never overpowering the soloist. This is a landmark recording that will no doubt stand the test of time. A fine recording indeed.
