Mijares' latest album is a collection of cover songs. While he has done that before ("Swing En Tu Idioma," "Accompaname"), I prefer him doing original material. But this album is terrific: His voice is soulful and strong, and the selection of songs suits him well. The title song reworks Camilo Sesto's "Vivir Asi Es Morir De Amor" into a driving, straight-ahead rocker. Most of the tunes feature arrangements that differ from the hit versions, so it doesn't feel like you're listening to carbon copies of the originals. I especially like "Para Ti Yo Estoy," a sweet version of "That's What Friends Are For" that features his old labelmates Daniela Romo and Pandora. Also check out "You Are So Beautiful:" After hearing this flawless rendition, I wonder why Mijares has never recorded in English before. The disc has already reached the top 3 in Mexico, and deservedly so. It is one of the best in his long career. Great for fans or newcomers to Mijares' music.
