I would sure disagree with at least one reviewer, and would agree more with Rolling Stone and Paste Magazine. This young man can sing and write, in a way that can touch your soul.

This album wouldn't stand out at a talent show. or a listless open mic night - except for the fact that you would almost feel bad for the players for practicing this much on such in-distinguishable, derivative songs. "Death won't send a letter"... Are you kidding? It's actually hard to be simaltaneously pretentious and obvious. Whoa. Some review compared this guy to Bruce? That's like comparing a bowl of cereal to planet earth. Dawes definitely has a few good songs - particularly "when my time comes." That deserves some acclaim.

This is a great album from a great band! Cory Chisel is going places and this definitely won't be the last time we hear from the Wondering Sons. Perfect combination of a southern country sound with some definite blues influence. The hooks are catchy and the vocals remind you of smoking a pack of unfiltered Lucky Strikes. Best thing to come out of Appleton since the Yesterdays Kids!

I heard of cory chisel months ago when he was iTunes featured artist of the week. That very same week I bought his ep, loving his music. I then sat patiently waiting for his full length album. Then just a few weeks ago, iTunes free music video of the week was cory chisel's born again. I had that music video on repeat and then finally gave in to buy the album. I do not regrett it at all! Such a good album, and can't wait to hear more from this awesome band, that has such potential!
  • Best Record of the Year for me!

I first heard of CC&TWS last week when iTunes listed their video as the discovery video of the week. Quite simply I was blown away by the video and immediately bought the band's entire catalog on iTunes and WOW am I glad I did. This CD has been in constant play since I bought it. It will get my vote as best new album of the year. Their live EP (Cabin Ghosts) shows their talent as live musicians--simply put, these folks are REALLY good! Their songwriting, their harmonizing, their great guitar licks, their amazing organ riffs make this band the best new talent I have heard in some time. I cannot wait to see them live here in the Cleveland area. Buy this music--NOW!

Cory Chisel’s debut for Black Seal Records, is a dark and urgent rock and roll vision. It takes a romantic stance on the meaning of love and spirituality, as the songs seek to make sense of the world outside and human desires within. With Grammy winning producer Joe Chiccarelli at the helm, Cory's songs have transformed into lush and nuanced recordings that never sacrifice his emotional vulnerability or his rich and unique vocal tone. The songs were recorded primarily at Blackbird Studios in Nashville with Adriel Harris and Little Jack Lawrence on initial tracking. Cory, Adriel and Little Jack are then joined by Patrick Keeler on drums. Carl Broemel from My Morning Jacket and Blake Mills of Band Of Horses also contribute on guitar. --Audiostar

"what do you need" is possibly the smartest pop song I've heard all year... and may be the best indie pop song I’ve heard this year hands down, the kind that gets buried on a record and slips into indie nerds’ favorite of the year list, like mine- it’s a great overall pop rock song, unlike anything I’ve heard Cory write to this date and deserves to heard whether you like sitting through full records like I do, or buying singles on iTunes- which is a giant excuse for being lazy, or whatever. that bridge is killing me, mmm, phil spector thunderclaps on a sly guitar slide, mm mm mmm!

iTunes recommended this album to me, and it was 5.99, so I bought it. It's pretty awesome. It's very rootsy rock n' roll with good lyrics. People who like Springsteen, Ryan Adams, Tom Petty, and good no frills music will really enjoy this. Great guitar work, some bluesy organ and pedal steels around. Awesome.
