I always thought there were similarities between Madness and Oingo Boingo. Both have numerous members, both influenced by ska, though Madness uses it a great deal more, and both had a sort of crazy theatrical element. However, Boingo always took this interpretation a lot further while Madness message of social activism was more serious. Either way, and much like The Jam or The Specials, they were too English for America's mass consumption other than a couple of hits.
This is a great important record that set a style for others to follow.
