Finally, Dougie MacLean is on Itunes and not a moment too soon! His beautiful melodies coupled with his Perthshire-bred voice and lyrics make this album or any of his treasures worth buying and extremely reasonable at 7.99. This album contains some of his best. His fiddle tune the Emigrant is chilling as the Atlantic over which the emigrant must cross. Homeland may make Americans and Settler English uncomfortable (I would know as an American living in Scotland), but it is the essential song of highland resistance to and anger at encroaching development and the debasement of their culture by outsiders (a sentiment anyone can understand, though his rhetoric is certainly pastoral nationalism). That said, Solid Ground is the perfect song for a hill-walk or a ramble in the ground outdoors. Really the best though is She Loves Me, a simple love song that says so much in so few words. Give it a listen, ken?
