This is one of the best composers ever! I am a music lover and these pieces are spectacular. I wish I could play this music in my band class.

This song I didn't get to really hear it until the spider man trailer was released and I got to say I love it to the max, I love Steve's music.

I love Steve Jablonsky's music. It is the kind of music that is truly inspiring. Similarly, I would highly recommend some of the songs in the Oblivion soundtrack, especially Waking Up. There was a song in the movie which is played when they start fixing up the Battleship for the final fight with the Aliens. Does anyone know where it can be found?
  • Wut is that song?

It's a good score that fits the movie really well, but as a soundtrack this is just not good. There is absolutely no originality everything sounds the same. Not to mention 99% is electronic crap that plays the same note ten thousand times. It's worth giving it a three for it fits well in the movie, but I would not recommend this to people who want to look at just the score. Look at all of Jablonsky's transformers soundtracks. Those are some AMAZING music.

The potential is there with the subject but 3/4 of this album is literally one note...ONE note!!!~ There are 5 tracks that begin to deliver good music and there are some amazingly gigantic passages...but they are passages only. Toward the end there is one piece that is 4 minutes of complete irritating tedium. Most of this is not music but environments. I am a devoted soundtrack fan but this is so short, so synthesizer. soooo flat!!!! Please make the movie better. I hated writing this review as even a mediocre effort would have been tolerable....sorry Steve. Addendum While the above review is true I had not seen the movie. Now that I have seen the film, a energized fun piece of popcorn, I totally understand why the music was handled the way it was...as texture. The sound effects track is so dense and intense with first rate sound design that the music was there to only ground the flavor of the film. Overall this is an apropriate music score that should not be listened to necessarily as a stand alone soundtrack. It totally works to keep reminding us of the aliens, the patriotism and the massive scale of the hardware. I dig it now.

every piece is written with such care and contrast with the movie, and the use of instruments is brilliant. i can't wait to see what he does next.
  • Wasted Innovation by Steve and Hans

Steve Jablonsky may not have surprised me with this one, mostly because he already has a record doing scores for mediocre or terrible movies based on Hasbro toys (Transformers*cough*2*cough*). What was really shocking was how Executive Score Producer Hans Zimmer had to help Steve on yet another one of his movies, just like on Transformers. When they were trying to come up with a theme for the aliens, the director went and had an MRI done, and he told the scoring team it was scary. Big deal! But Hans went and recorded a bunch of MRI sounds, and now that really annoying sound all through "The Aliens" track is just a stupid MRI machine. All because the director was scared of it! Great innovation wasted on a score which really doesn't serve much of a purpose since its inspired by a terrible movie. I'm 99.99% sure that if Steve Jablonsky would get a decent movie to score, he'd do a great job, but he just doesn't seem to be able to pick the movies that will do well in the long run, just ones that are full of overdone special effects and over-the-top action. Oh well, at least we have John Powell and Harry Gregson-Williams to fall back on. And maybe Hans will be able to go back to making his own incredible scores instead of trying to help all of his proteges at once.
