Reviews

  • Um….WHAT IS THIS?!

I liked Kate's old music!! Why is she going all indie/punk-ish on us? I'm sorry; I really am, but if you listeners like Kate's witty, poppish music, then don't listen to this. This isn't Kate, if you know what I mean.

I have been a fan for years, and it while independently, I love this type of music, I liked her old stuff. It was edgy lyrics with a happy beat. I love this kind of music, but I liked the old her more, and wished she made some of the stuff that I started listening for. Not a failure of an album, just a disappointment.

I love Kate Nash because of her quirkiness and self confidence in her music. But I'm kind of disappointed with this album, I feel like its so much rock and so much more talking than singing, that she's lost her quirkiness.

Music belongs to one person: the person who writes it. Music is an outward expression of an inward experience. You have no right to get angry at someone for living life and having experiences that change their creative output. If you don't enjoy it, listen to her other albums and find some other artists you enjoy. There are loads of artists coming out of nowhere everyday! Or you could write your own songs. And if you can't do that, then you don't know what it's like to have created something that's a part of you and have other people crap all over it because it's not THEIR perception of the way YOU should be. Open your minds, people.

I've adored Kate Nash for years, she is my idol. Sad to say I'm a bit disappointed in her new sound. I understand she wants to take a new direction, and I'll still listen to it, but it's just not as amazing as her past two albums.

She is my idol, but this is definitely not her best work. I'll start with the best. Fri-end is awesome. That should go on the album. All Day and All of the Night is a pretty great cover after she stops talking. May Queen is good. It's repetitive though and it needs a little more work. Nice use of the organ, though. I don't really know about Death Proof from the really short sample. It be better if she SANG instead of talked. From the sample I wouldn't buy it. I Want A Boyfriend is dumb. She has better songwriting skills than that. She's proved to us on her last album that she can write deep meaningful lyrics and on both albums that she can write great music to go with them. I'm not saying her first album didn't have great lyrics but it couldn't compare to You Were So Far Away and Pickpocket. This song has both shallow music and shallow lyrics. I don't like it at all. I like the indie rock Kate Nash from My Best Friend is You and most of Made of Bricks, and this new punk sound is ok, and she's done some good with it (fri-end) but she should meld the two sounds together, like she did in fri-end.

The best part about Kate Nash is her voice sounds great in a lot of genre's. But, I truly believe she's found her sound. But, she should use combine the old success stuff with this new darker edgy sound. If you are fixated on Kate Nash's old stuff & will not open your mind this isn't for you. If you love Indie Rock or you just love Kate you'll love this

If you love indie rock this album is for you. In this EP, she keeps up the quippy lyrics she is famous for, but there is a harder edge to the music that accompanies it. If this type of music is your style, definitely go for buying it. Nash is talented musically as well as clever. Her "side project" with The Receders (the punk band where she plays bass) is definitely influencing her more with each new album. However, if what you are looking for musically (like I was) is more "Made of Bricks," this one is probably not going to be your thing. Then you are likely to be disappointed in her straying even further away from the unique style of pop that got your attention in the first place. If you liked "Made of Bricks" and disliked "My Best Friend Is You" then I don't think you will like this one either.
