From the Lowlands

I think what it might be is the fact that this album dosen't really seem like an intrical or noteworthy addition to the Tom McRae discography. I'm not sure that The Alphabet of Hurricanes warrented a part 2; It's confusing that the artist refers to it as such. Although, I do like the fact that Mr. McRae makes no apologies for the type of content and context that you'll receive in this effort (refer to linear notes, if you have the album) It dashingly seems that a certian chip resided on the shoulder of the artist in writing his plea for the listener to understand what the album was about. Overall, the album lacks in traditional McRae swagger and lyrical chop, with most songs seemingly landing in the bin of filler track, rather than a solid unit that works together. I found it very interesting that the two best songs on the album are the only ones that could be previewed on the artists' WebSite before the offcial release of the album "Latley" and "From the Lowlands." It seemed like McRae was trying to propel himself forward in to the "single" world, showing a lack of confidence in the other tracks. It really dosen't work for the callibor that he holds. Brilliant music, like Tom's, doesn't strike me as relevant for this world. Every song should be a in-depth look into the very soul of existence. His previous albums garner that trip spendidly. This one fails on some levels, not living up to what the fans have grown to expect from this artist.
