To start, let me just say that all of the songs on this album are fabulous, and I will do my best not to offend anyone in my review. These are just my personal opinions:
Rapper's Delight (Hip-Hop Remix Long Version) - 5 out of 5 - A great remix on one of the best hip hop songs. The gang just adds a few extra verses and switches the order. Great song.
Hot Hot Summer Day (LP Version) - 4 out of 5 - More of a "singing" song on the album. The chorus has a blues/R&B feel to it. The gang still raps hardcore during the regular song. Not one the gang's really popular song, this song can go unnoticed quickly.
8th Wonder - 4.5 out of 5 - A upbeat, quick song with a great feel and beat. Some of the best rapping during in the verses. Wonder Mike KILLS the track. Some of his best stuff.
Showdown - 5 out of 5 - One of my favs on the album, the Furious Five add a few FANTASTIC verses in the song. The ending with about 2 minutes is the best part. The part where the Sugarhill Gang say their names at about 4:10 is the best part.
Apache - 4 out of 5 - I know a lot of people who are obsessed with this song, and the verses are good, but the chorus is very annoying after awhile. They repeat the same words over and over again. I don't hate the song, but I'm just not into the hype.
The Lover In You - 5 out of 5 - My favorite song on the album. Master Gee kills the song, and the chorus has a blues feeling which adds a cool beat to the song. All of the gang kill the verses, but Gee especially. Some of his best.
The Word Is Out - 4.5 out of 5 - A high, pumped up song. Some good rapping in the verses by Wonder Mike made the song. Take out his rapping and the song losses its flair. The instrumental break at the end is one of the best on the album. Overall, a very good song.
Kick It Live From 9 to 5 - 5 out of 5 - My 2nd fav song on the album, some GREAT rapping by the whole crew. An upbeat, high energy song. The verse at about 1:05 is one of my favs from any song. Great song.
Livin' In the Fast Lane - 4 out of 5 - Another bluessy song, Master Gee's voice fits perfectly in this one. The chorus give this song a fabulous touch. Great rapping by the whole crew.
Girls - 3.5 out of 5 - The only song in the whole album I'll give under 4, this song just doesn't seem to fit. The gang talks about girls all the time in their verses, so I guess this song just pushes the point too far. The chorus is nice, but the song gets old quickly.
Work, Work the Body - 5 out of 5 - An absolutely fabulous song, the whole crew shows some of their best rapping in the album. The chorus, as with about 4 or 5 others, is a blues/R&B, and then the verses are some hardcore rapping. One of the best, from some of the best. A great way to end the album. Best part is the verse by Wonder Mike at about 1:30.
Overall, one of the best albums with "The Greatest Hits." The rapping is clean, and I promise you'll want to move when you listen. OVERALL: 4.5 OUT OF 5.
