This is my go-to music! Amanda has an amazing voice, and can make her violin sing...or scream...or do anything she wants. My favorites on this album are Devastate and Bullet Proof.

Shazam-ed a song heard on the local folk radio WUMB which turned out to be "Drop & Lift" with its strange cool backbeat. Bought that one and kept coming back here for more. Another dang phone app let me know she was coming in concert, which turned out to be a sonic treat. She was grand as a two-piece. Sometimes surpassing this recording (small quibble is with the production on this record. Eq spectrum seems choked & gated.) Much admire Mrs. Shires vocal delivery. Sweet timbre but more importantly it sounds like she is experiencing the meaning of the words as she passes them along. An occasional stylistic flicker-flutter but not over-used. Sad & disappointed, as if weary of waiting for the rapture. "Wasted & Rollin" is a tipsy train ride. "If I" is a brave confessional. "Box Cutters" is some goth, dark humor, still waiting for that Union Pacific train from last album. Let's hope such material is only for the muse.

Another great album from Amanda Shires. Her songwriting talents seem to grow in leaps and bounds from one album to the next. This album is loaded with great songs, especially "Bulletproof," probably my favorite song of the year.

So I don't know much about Amanda Shires and this is the first time I've ever heard her work, yet I do have to say I'm impressed. She's got a very sweet voice with a nice twang, but not enough of one to make it obnoxious. The standout songs to me were Box Cutters, Deep Dark Below, If I, Stay, and The Garden Song. These are all sadder songs but theres so much beauty in the lyrics and melodies and it's truly amazing. I'd recommend Amanda to anyone looking for some well written music with a kind of chill vibe. Give it a chance, there's nothing to lose. ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜
