This is a return to Katy’s pop-rock roots and the song is the best song since Never Really Over. However, it still lacks substance and artistry.
It seems like she is finally tuning into what her fans want from her, for she has a nice tone for a singing voice - but it’s still basic songwriting that lacks purpose.
I’m sorry to say it may be too little too late for her to revive chart-competing songs like in her astronomical peak back in the early 2010’s - she achieved every measure of success back then.
She will never reach anywhere near that again, and hopefully she’s OK with that.
But as it stands, this is a step in the right direction.
