There is no doubt this damaged young person is musically and technologically gifted. There is also no doubt that he is a raging bigot. The question arises: can we as appreciators of the music made by Pogo separate the artistry from the hatred. Recently, The Carmichael Show pondered this very same question (as commented upon by P. Viruet columnist for Vulture: "The episode is questioning whether or not it’s possible — or even morally justifiable — to separate an abuser’s horrific behavior from his talent."); it made for an intense discussion in my own home.
Be warned all who purchase here, as this is what he has said:
"Why I called my channel Fagottron . . . always had a very thorough dislike of homosexuals."
“I’ve never liked a grown man acting like a 12-year-old girl. I’ve always found that to be quite disgusting . . . And so I thought to myself, how best can I express to the world that gays are just an abomination?"
“I think nothing encapsulates the sissiness of a guy quite like the word ‘faggot' . . . I have a fairly robust resentment of the gay community. I don’t want to really get into this, but when there was the Orlando shooting and the guy was shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ or something, I was like ‘Great.’”
“It amazes me to see the West welcoming a culture through the floodgates that wants gays dead. I think that’s fantastic.”
"I’ve always found that the more I treat a woman like a child, the stronger the relationship . . . Discipline, reprimand and complete indifference. I think the feminine woman craves the attributes of a firm father in the man she enters a relationship with. The more I realize it, the more I see modern feminism in a different light – it could well be little more than the collective feminine cry for drama and childlike retaliation."
"The irony of feminism is that, by focusing largely on one gender, it inherently supports the segregation of genders and raises a breed of self victimizing gold diggers who think historical injustice to their sex makes them personally deserving of special treatment today."
So, the quesition I ask today, is: Can I separate what I know from the artistry?
