  • A minor masterpiece

I came upon this album by accident and I was immediately impressed by both Lori's writing and performance. Although she is a unique artist, she somehow reminds me of Lucinda Williams. I have bought more of Lori's music and they are all excellent, but Bittertown remains my favorite, and I honestly believe it is a minor masterpiece in the singer/songwriter field.

If you like alt-country, sample these tracks. You'll probably buy the album. What a rare treasure both vocally and musically Lori McKenna is.

This album deserves an A+ for its beauty and craftsmanship. McKenna seems to master a unique balance of edginess and warmth, creating songs that really hit in all the right places! Just awesome!

Buy this record. Lori is an amazing singer-songerwriter-performer and her songs really hit something inside of me that's so right. I can feel every word she sings. She's not the most polished musician out there and that's part of the appeal for me. She's real. 100% real!
  • The soundtrack of our time.

Lori McKenna's "Bittertown" is quite simply one of the finest examples of singer/songwriting in the past decade. Her poignant lyrics, emotional vibrancy, deft guitar playing and vocal color bring a refreshing sense of realness to the vast wasteland of contemporary pop-schlock that has undermined today's music scene. This CD will certainly find its place alongside many of the great alt-folk albums of recent times: Lucinda's "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road", Emmylou's "Red Dirt Girl" and Gillian Welch's "Time/The Revelator". Yeah, it's that good.

Another brilliant artist I'd have never known about had it not been for MySpace! Thanks to Faith Hill for posting a bulletin about this talented songstress!

When I first heard "Stealing Kisses", it totally blew me away. It is such a emotional, well writen and well preformed song (Faith's cover in no way compares) but I would have to say that Bible Song is without a doubt one of the best and most incredible songs I have ever heard. However, any one of these songs would be well worth the 99 cents. Really, when it comes to Lori Mckenna, you really can't go wrong.

I remember seeing Lori at a local pub several years ago, (I will not say how long, for her sake). She was playing at brunch there also. Also remember her first CD release party. She is as nice a person as she is an artist. This album shows she is only getting better. Good luck and congratulations Lori.
