City of Silent Noise

2008-11-08 6 509 Vimeo

Cairo, the 20-million-habitant mega-city, can be pretty noisy. This noise however is pretty repetitive, what these 20 million habitants are making noise about is pretty redundant which renders the noise virtually silent. These 20 million habitants, who can seemingly easily be divided into different groups, each with a different focal interest, usually quite different from the interest of the other, seem to share views however in one main aspect. This makes that shared view evermore important, but with the redundancy of the tedious repetition, it too is unfortunately rendered silent. Developed between hotel rooms in Kiel, Germany during the final week of October 2008 and shown for the first time during Kiel's Radius of Art Middle Eastern cultural weeks.
