I made this video on a residency in Holland. I found a box of old photographs in a local market. I selected ones where the subjects seemed to match our gaze. As I had no lights or computer with me I recorded the images lit and unlit by candle light. This meant I was able to perform in-camera edits. The final sequence was screened as part of an installation on completion of the residency. Later I refined the editing, edited the audio and worked with another artist, Sharon Kivland, on a text to be voiced over the images. The final work was screened widely including at The World Wide Video Festival, Amsterdam in 1997.
