The Moynihan Train Hall clock, designed by Peter Pennoyer Architects, was installed December 3rd, 2020 over a period of 18 hours. Inspired by the machined angles found in designs from the golden era of railroad travel, the concourse clock evokes the best of art deco and modern classical style emblematic of Jazz-Age New York. Situated 25 feet above the concourse floor and suspended from the central steel truss, the clock measures nearly 12 feet tall and over 6 feet wide. A digital control mechanism marks the passage of time along numerals set in an iconic font created to standardize railroad and highway signage: DIN 1451.
