The last Electric Locomotive at Warragul

The last L class English Electric locomotive to Warragul (Victoria Australia) was L1162 on a special outing after which the electric power was turned off. The line was initially de-electified between Traralgon -- which had been the farest point of electrification -- and Warragul. The Traralgon line had branches at Morwell and Moe for briquette and brown coal traffic, Such had been the domain of 25 L class English Electric electric locomotives obtained in the 1950s to modernise the line for fast passenger trains and briquette / coal trains. The briquette / coal trains have been discontinued and the line between Traralgon and Warragul became diesel only, as did the section between Warragul and Pakenham after the train in this video returned to Melbourne. The electric overhead wires on the Warragul - Pakenham section were then cut down and removed as those east of Warragul already had been before the time of this outing. The electric railway between Pakenham and Warragul survived longer because suburban multiple unit, Melbourne electric trains, were for a while used on this section and are shown operating in another posted video at http://vimeo.com/66553209 while the cutting down of the overhead wiring is shown in yet another video at http://vimeo.com/66481657
