Video is part 1 of This ruined temple/should have its sad tale only/by a clam digger. It explores the inevitable decline and decay of human life and endeavors, as embodied by the disarray and disrepair of the former Hortus Nursery in Pasadena. This video is the last record of this beautiful nursery – it is now condominiums. For one day, inspired by the haiku poetry of Basho, a 17th century Japanese poet, Miki Seifert, Don McLeod, Annabelle Aylmer, and William Franco danced the spirits of the Nursery. Each dancer improvised their movement and was videotaped individually. The dance was then "created" on video. The video was then projected in the greenhouse of the nursery for 4 months in 2004. Camera William Franco, Wolfgang Hastert, edited by William Franco, music by Robert Rich MIKI SEIFERT and WILLIAM FRANCO are the artistic directors of With Lime, an interdisciplinary arts company that creates performances, installations and projections that explore the interface between cultures and is committed to the vision of the arts as positive force for personal and societal transformation.
