I saw him coming
On horseback,
The animal flickering back and forth
As the shadows fell and rose over his beautiful black mane

I couldn’t move
I knew him
I knew that this was indeed my destiny
This is my truth

There was no escape
But I didn’t care at all
I didn’t want one
I was waiting

He will go through me
I will vanish
I will meet an angel,
the angel that has always sheltered me with his soft wings

We will leave this darkness
There will be grass and tall, tall trees
Older then all of us
And I will cry when I feel his hand rub my cheek

Many hollow men
Will fall away, broken
My tears will stain his chest
And I will refold

Clear and still
Only a lightness,
A lifting of all of the misguided hopes
and of all the shadows

I await him
And I am sure that my light and the other lights (our lights)
Will come together,
Never to separate again

And through our happiness and tears
we will again laugh and play together,
And everything will escape, wild once more; delightful
and love will sprinkle the night with tiny, new stars

jennifer killian

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-night-rider/
