I remember long ago how life just went to fast, <br />our parents made the good times good and bad times never last. <br /> <br />The summer fun, the winter chill, the fall left leaves to play, <br />through autumn time with friends around our lives were full each day. <br /> <br />I remember games of tag...and kickball in the rain, <br />basketball and so much more to numerous to name. <br /> <br />Our lives were good or so it seemed, us kids without a care, <br />our parents never letting on the cross they had to bare. <br /> <br />With money short and bills galore, so many mouths to feed, <br />I don't know how they made it work but work they did indeed. <br /> <br />Our Sundays always seem to be the day we waited for, <br />a trip was planned, a day of fun, none like the week before. <br /> <br />A day to fish or to explore, a trip to Old Man's cave, <br />a journey filled with scenery, the day we all behaved. <br /> <br />Our family had some trying times like every family does, <br />those times just made us stronger now than any family was. <br /> <br />My parent are like none before or none who've yet to come, <br />I wouldn't trade the life we've led for any tidy sum. <br /> <br />Through struggles great and sacrifices plenty, <br />they taught us kids values don't mean money.<br /><br />Kevin Hayes<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/ode-to-mom-dad-i-remember/
