When the irises bloom in their colourful array <br />I do always think of you as you do love those flowers <br />and when the swallows gather, <br />preparing themselves to go home on the long journey <br />I do know that autumn has arrived <br />when the wild cosmos bloom <br />I know that even in our autumn years <br />you will always be mine <br /> <br />and like the autumn-blanket <br /> that covers the whole country <br />and toils with everything <br />as if it sends out pixies and fairies <br />to colour all the leaves <br />everywhere things in life are changing <br />leaves are scattered and blown along in the wind <br /> <br />and the last roses of the season bloom <br />as if they are dedicated only to you, <br />as if they want to linger in your memory <br />and want to capture the last beauty of summer. <br /> <br />The colourful leaves are like memories <br />that we want to rake together <br />as not to be forgotten in oblivion <br />while we do try to turn back time. <br /> <br />The orchard is full of red-cheeked apples <br />and it's clear that autumn has arrived <br />in all her splendour <br />and I know that we will always be together <br />even when the winter death sets in.<br /><br />Daleen Enslinstrydom<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-autumn-blanket/
