In a deepening diplomatic row, Indonesia has gone ahead and executed six prisoners for drug offences, including five foreigners.<br /><br /> Brazil and the Netherlands have recalled their ambassadors in protest, as their pleas for clemency were ignored.<br /><br /> Executions in Indonesia resumed last year after a gap of five years.<br /><br /> This despite condemnation from human rights groups and foreign governments against the death penalty.<br /><br /> Brazil says the execution of its national by firing squad would affect bilateral relations.<br /><br /> The Netherlands, Indonesia’s former colonial ruler, also condemned the execution of its citizen, calling it “cruel and inhumane”.<br /><br /> Jakarta ignored months of lobbying by foreign officials, who campaigned for the death penalties to be replaced by jail terms.
