The French national football team has received a heroes' reception as thousands gathered in Paris on Monday to welcome back the World Cup champions.<br /> Fans dressed in red, white and blue gave rapturous cheers as the squad paraded down the Champs-Elysees in an open-top bus.<br />The champions were then welcomed at the Elysee Palace by President Emmanuel Macron, who was at the final in Moscow. <br />Macron had also promised to give the team France's highest accolade - the Legion of Honour.<br />Despite the jubilant atmosphere, some celebrations were marred by violence, causing police to use tear gas.<br />Meanwhile, runners-up Croatia were also given a heroe's welcome home, with thousands gathering in Zagreb. <br />
