Description

Liberation Philology Icelandic helps you improve your knowledge of the Icelandic language through practice-driven memorisation. Whenever you have your phone and a free moment, it offers a continuous multiple-choice test on Icelandic vocabulary, declension of nouns, and conjugation of verbs. Each answer you give is immediately confirmed or corrected, and your knowledge is reinforced by repetition. • Vocabulary: 249 levels, each testing the translation of 10 words between Icelandic and English. Interspersed among these are cumulative levels reviewing what has been learned earlier (giving a total of 280 levels). • Nouns: Tests your ability to parse and to decline all types of Icelandic nouns. • Pronouns: Tests your ability to decline Icelandic pronouns, masculine, feminine, singular, and plural. • Verbs: Tests your ability to parse and to conjugate all types of Icelandic verbs. A further Reference module allows you to review the vocabulary word-list and the paradigms for nouns, verbs, and pronouns.

A text base quiz that may be good for advanced learners, but is definitely not for the average user. Worthless to me.
  • Garbage.

Not worth a download even if it was free. All it lets you do is guess what the Icelandic word is for an English word with no actual teaching or audible pronunciation like Duolingo. You will get nowhere trying to use this app.
  • Amazing app

I like the fact that this app uses memorization science to help you learn to read and write the language. I do not recommend this to complete beginners because it does not offer audio. Before buying you need to know how to pronounce the letters of the alphabet. You also need to have some knowledge of the language.

This is an expensive app and it's really terrible. I never write reviews, but I felt compelled to with this one. It has no auditory function as far as i can tell. you have no idea how to pronounce things or what they even sound like. And the vocabulary section is so bad. It's just like a game of snap, where you're asked what the translation for 6 or seven if he same words are over and over again. Not worth the money. I'd love to get a refund.
  • Awesome review tool!

If you know nothing of Icelandic, this isn't for you. But for students ready for memorization, I've seen nothing better. It really helps cement vocabulary, grammar, etc.
  • One of the best but needs some work

This is the best icelandic language app I've tried so I'm giving it four stars, but it does have some problems. For one, I speak enough icelandic to know that the translations are not completely accurate. If you see a word with a z in it for example, this is an archaic form (the icelandic alphabet eliminated the z a long time ago) Next, for English speakers unfamiliar with noun cases, it is not so helpful to memorize that a certain form is genitive/dative/accusative. Rather, provide a sentence an icelandic sentence with a blank space so that I can pick the form of the word that goes there. For some improvements, it would be good to include adjectives, and also when you get a word wrong, rather then just show the correct form for a second and move on automatically, I would like to be able to study it as long as I want and move on when I'm ready by clicking next.
  • Finally!

Praise Allah for LP Icelandic! I know English, French, and even Finnish - none of these are as difficult or as hair-pulling as Icelandic has been for me. This app, while not pretending to be a panacea for all linguistic problems, is outstanding for what it wants to be. Verb conjugations, noun declensions, and nearly 3.000 words - it's not everything, but trust me, it's MUCH more than a start: it's a foundation. This is so helpful. I have spent literally days (total time) inputting Icelandic vocab, phrases, etc. into Provoc on the Mac. This is STILL very useful. Now if we can just get one for Finnish so my wife and I can be on the same page. Thank you so much for this! If I work on Old Norse, I'll be sure to grab the LP for that, too!
