Not sure why iTunes switched this to English when they made an English dubbed version separately in the iTunes store, but the Russian version with English subtitles is MUCH better...bring back the Russian audio with English subtitles!!!

If you are complaining that iTunes didn't warn you that a Russian movie has subtitles, you're a total idiot.

I bought this movie because I enjoyed it. I thought it was a brilliant movie. And, when I bought it, the audio was in the original Russian, LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE! I had to re-download it and now it is in English, badly dubbed English. I thought I could just switch the audio trackbecause who in their right mind would have a Russian film without the original audio track. ITUNES, apparently. After searching all over, I still have not found an answer or a reasonable explanation. Since I have nothing else, I will have to use this.

The summary page says 'primary language' - english. However, that is not true, I wouldn't have rented it had I known it was subtitled.

With it's odd twist on reality, it's no wonder its deserved such ratings. This aside, I found it crammed with tidbits of brain teasers that made it tedious to watch with subtitles. It deserves merit, but not such a high scale on the reviews.
  • This a sequel.

First movie = Night Watch Second movie = Day Watch Judging from the reviews this version is subtitled with Russian audio, BUT I believe the english dubbed version is absolutely awful - I'm pro-subtitles on all foreign movies though; hearing the emotional performance in the actor's native language trumps an English dub with no heart. The movies. I loved them. I stumbled on the series in high school (~2004) and still consider them to be two of my favorite films. You can't go into them mindless though. Pay attention and let the movie do its thing even if half the crap defies logic or sense. It's a Russian-made action flick, NOT Hollywood! Give it a chance but be sure to check out Night Watch first.

Both of these are fantastic and are based on a series of books (Night Watch, Day Watch, Twilight Watch, and Last Watch) by the Russian author Sergei Lukyanenko. If you read the books the movies make a whole lot more sense.

You see, this movie is why I will never trust a Rotten Tomatoes rating again. The stagering degree of incoherent scenes and jisjointed dialog left me not only painfully confused but actually angry. The most intelligible thing about this film is the trailer. Even if you were high, this film would make no sense. My real disgust comes from knowing that the scattered remnants of this cinematic wreck is still bouncing around aimlessly in my head. Save yourselves. Avoid this film as you would a social disease.
