I’ve always looked up to Abraham Lincoln since I was a kid, thought he was one of my favorite presidents. This was a really good movie. I’m a sucker for iconic moments like Freddy vs Jason. Wasn’t scary, but the suspension was good enough to keep you interested. I just wish they showed more of him as an older man and not a kid. I believe this comes close to under Dracula: Untold for best vampire movies. This is the second time I’ve seen critics act so stupid with a decent film.

This is one of those films that comes as a surprise that it’s so much fun after you read about it being trashed by critics. The movie infuses alternate explanations for real historical events using supernatural dynamics. Totally fun!

If you have never read the book, take this as a rollicking vampire flick with some alternative history thrown in. Having read the book, I take it as a necessary movie version of “Abraham Lincoln superhero vampire hunter” instead of the book version “Abraham Lincoln all too human vampire hunter by courage and necessity.” Because the book and screenplay were written by the same person, it seems the variations in scenes, particularly the ending, the trap at the plantation, and the turning of the Civil War battles, were part of alternate ideas the author had. (I actually enjoyed the alternative ending a lot) Overall, a good flick.

WHO watches this crap?! There’s no plot. VERY BAD ACTING! CGI is cool, but THAT’s IT! Horrible movie!

As an alt-history, comic-booky retelling of the Civil War, this thing is goofily audacious, and certainly less of a slog than "Lincoln." We've had Nazi zombies, why not rebel vampires? I liked the way everybody involved, including a few real stars like Rufus Sewell, pretended to take it seriously. If you accept the loony premise the storytelling is fairly tight and the whole thing moves along at a nice clip. I wish they'd pushed it all farther into parody or satire or such, but still, as wacky as it is, it's not the turkey the critics panned.
